A Midsummer Night's Dream Bedroom: Cures For Hot, Sleepless Nights

Good news - there’s only ten more sleeps until summer solstice! And we really can’t wait to officially inaugurate this season with an evening glass of wine in the garden, endless barbeques with friends until it gets dark and improvised outdoor cinema experiences with the kids. Yes, we absolutely love summer! (And yes, we know you do too!) But, even when we’re dreaming about longer summer nights all year, there’s something we’re sure nobody misses: hot, sleepless nights.

When the ambient temperature gets humid and hot, it can be really difficult to get a proper sleep, so it’s really important to prepare your interiors accordingly. Here we put together some tips that will help you to rearrange your bedroom to ensure you rest as deeply as Lysander, after Puck drops a magic love potion on his eyes. But please be careful who you first look at when you awake!

Tackle the basics

Bedding - If you’re currently using synthetic fabrics, try to replace them with other materials like cotton, linen or silk instead as they’re more breathable and don’t trap the heat and moisture. Choosing neutral or light colours will also give you a refreshed feel.

Mattress - Replacing your mattress can be a game changer. You can take a look at our Ultimate Guide to Beds: Best Mattresses & More post, where you will find an extensive and detailed guide to help you find the perfect mattress to suit your needs.

Pillows - Choosing the right pillow can improve how well your body is positioned at night and the quality of your sleep. The temperature sensitive material used in all TEMPUR® pillows for example softens as it responds to your body heat, conforming to the natural curvature of your head and neck and offering optimal comfort and support. This enables you to relax and enjoy a restful sleep.

Revive the bedroom look

Try to bring more freshness to your bed with white, pastel and light grey tones and combine them with light oak finishes. The Ercol Bosco king size bed frame for example, features pre-sprung wooden slats that help provide a comfortable night's sleep. With a clear matt lacquered finish that protects the wood and enhances the natural beauty of the grain and the distinctive jointing of the curved slats recessed in to the headboard top-trail, this bed will be the centrepiece of your bedroom.

The Vispring Regal Superb could be a really nice option as well. It perfectly mirrors the shape of your body to ensure a restful night's sleep. The pronounced natural loft of its fine natural fillings results in a voluptuously deep surface, providing an ideal combination of springiness, softness and support.

If you’re really considering a light oak finish, the Cesan bedroom range by Disselkamp has a beautiful design in wild oak that combined with a beautiful white upholstered headboard gives a neutral and fresh look; perfect to lighten up your interiors.

If the optimisation of your space is a must we’ve got the perfect solution. The Alstons Memphis sofa bed features elegant, tailored arms which are nicely proportioned to the sofa. This collection perfectly blends a contemporary design with the subtle curves of retro chic styles.

Need extra help?

Exercising in the evening to regulate your body temperature, taking a quick shower before bed or getting a ceiling fan to keep the air flowing during the night can also help to achieve a better sleep but, if none of our tips work, you can always invest in a good bed for your second bedroom so you don’t have to share your partner’s body heat, that will definitely work.
