Created by internationally renowned artist Ai Weiwei, Sunflower Seed references his celebrated 2010 installation at Tate Modern, which featured over 100 million individually handcrafted porcelain sunflower seeds. The installation explored themes of individuality, collective identity and the relationship between the individual and society.
Each miniature seed represents a remarkable feat of traditional craftsmanship, with the original installation taking two years to produce. Through this deceptively simple everyday object, Ai Weiwei transforms the familiar into something thought-provoking, inviting us to consider the significance of the individual within the collective.
