How to pull off the perfect pancake banquet this Pancake Day

Guess what, everyone? It’s Pancake Day! Since we love to celebrate tradition here at Ponsford, (particularly ones that encourage us to eat delicious pancakes for breakfast, lunch and dinner) we’ve been thinking about the many ways there are to pull off the perfect pancake banquet.

After a long discussion about the best toppings combination, the age-old sweet or savoury debate (clearly sweet, are we right?), we came to the conclusion that there’s nothing more important than gathering around the table with your loved ones to celebrate this annual event. That’s why, today, we’re bringing you a selection of dining tables and styling tips sure to elevate the entire atmosphere.

The pancake tradition goes as far back as 1439 and it used to signify a period of fasting for the following 40 days leading up to Easter. Shrove Tuesday, commonly known as Pancake Day, was the last opportunity for Anglo-Saxon Christians to use eggs and fats before embarking on their fast, and pancakes were the perfect way to use up these ingredients.

Take a look at our secret recipe down below which we feel gives the best combination of taste and presentation to create the ultimate pancake feast. Follow the steps meticulously if you want to leave your family feeling stuffed while also being visually stunned!

Ingredients

As you know, the traditional recipe for the pancakes only includes four main ingredients; eggs, milk, flour and salt. Less known is that these ingredients symbolise four points of significance for this reflective time of the year; creation, purity, life and wholesomeness.

To make 8 delicious pancakes you will need:

- 2 large eggs

- 1 pint of milk

- 8oz of plain flour

- A pinch of salt

Steps

1. Crack and whisk the eggs

It’s time to give a good stir to your dining furniture with an Italian contemporary touch. The Calligaris Vortex is a beautiful round table that not only will help your family and friends come together by creating a strong sense of belonging, aiding conversation simply by its shape, but will also bring a modern touch to any space. With a central base both decorative and functional featuring its helical metal tube frame and the glass top, this table would be the perfect ingredient for the tastiest dining area in the whole neighborhood.

2. Soak the eggs with the milk

Bring together something beautiful with the Gallotti & Radice Monday Table. Featuring a glass top with grey metallic lacquered legs to create a consistent but ultra modern fresh look, this dining table will transform your dining area into a more relaxed space, blending softly and creating a more spacious feel. Mind the liquidity of the mix as we’re about to add the dry ingredients!

3. Sieve and mix the flour

Bring some consistency and character to the liveliest area of your home with the Liberation Dining Set. With an industrial design and rustic flavour inspiration this high-quality piece will give a unique twist to your dining room. Featuring a stylish iron frame for an extra robust finish, it will give us the necessary thickness to bring your pancake batter to the pan.

4. Add the salt to the rest of the ingredients

Give that extra pinch of flair to the highest comfort with the Venjakob Impuls. This dining range creates highlights in open areas and lends dining rooms an extra touch of cosiness. Whether covered with leather or fabric, equipped with metal or wooden legs, coloured in a single or two colour look: Impuls gets that special touch that makes the difference to the rest of the mixture.

Now leave this to stand for 30 minutes before taking it to the pan. Dress up your beautiful dining table with your favourite decorations for a total pancakelicious look and then start by heating a little bit of oil or butter in the pan. Pour in enough batter to cover the base of the pan and let it cook until the base of the pancake has browned. Shake the pan to loosen the pancake and flip it over to brown the other side.

Golden syrup or lemon juice and caster sugar are the usual toppings but don’t be afraid to get creative. Top up any empty space on these beautiful dining tables with yummy ingredients to fill your pancakes with and enjoy.
